Parent Involvement

Overland Welcomes Parent Involvement!

The strong participation of parents and community in our school benefits all our students. Parents bring their skills, insights, expertise, and passion to the table to support a commitment that every child at Overland can achieve high expectations and strong academic skills, as well as social responsibility and creativity. Our strong Parent Teacher Association boasts over 300 members and 100-percent teacher and administrator participation. Every year, parents contribute hundreds of hours at our school.

Volunteer time is spent in many ways. Parents are welcomed into the classrooms to assist teachers by providing additional help while teachers are working one-on-one with students. Parents inform and nurture students with our thriving standards-based gardening program. Each classroom has its own garden plot in the yard, which not only beautifies the school but also gives children the experience of learning first hand about life sciences. Parents bring the Great Masters, such as Georgia O’Keefe and Leonardo da Vinci, to life and create art with students in the classroom. Parents, grandparents, and community members give struggling readers support and a boost of confidence as they tutor students in our library. All volunteers are encouraged to assist in the science and computer labs. Parents and grandparents are always appreciated and enthusiastically chaperone field trips. This active involvement helps student achievement by making parents collaborators and partners in their children’s learning experiences. Thanks to our parents’ dedication, Overland continues to grow academically, culturally, and artistically. Parent participation makes all the difference!
