Science & Engineering

In 2007 Overland opened its Science Lab. Our students explore connections across four domains of science, including Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Science, and Engineering Design. Classes come either once a week (Gr. 4-5) or once every other week (Gr. K-3).

We utilize Next Generation Science Standards, including an engineering component, to ensuring that our students receive research-based instruction. The FOSS (Full Option Science System) curriculum is used to support the learning experiences.

Adjacent to the Science Lab is our Discovery Garden. The garden is designed to attract butterflies, showcase native and drought-tolerant plants, and provide an outdoor classroom.

Technology

Overland strives to prepare our students for success in the 21st century. Through hands-on experience during our Technology instruction, students learn proper keyboarding, word processing, data management using spreadsheets, digital presentation skills, image editing, programming concepts, and more. Our goal is for students to maximize the creative and academic potential of technologies. Students in grades 3-5 use Chromebooks, while students in grades TK -2 use iPads.

Math

Our goal at Overland is to inspire a love for math. Teachers draw from a variety of resources with an emphasis on real world problem solving. Children make sense of problems and use tools, models, and strategies to solve. Overland classrooms encourage mathematical discussions with evidence based comments.

Our curriculum, Eureka Math®, sets a new standard for rigor, coherence, and focus in the classroom so students gain a deeper understanding of the why behind the numbers, all while making math more enjoyable to learn.
